Privacy policy

The short version

• MosaicMe makes your mosaics on your iPhone. We never receive your photos.
• There is no account. We do not know who you are.
• The Pro features that find people and pets work only on your iPhone. The face data they create never leaves it.
• The app sends anonymous usage statistics, so we can improve it. You can turn them off in Settings.
• Apple takes the payment for Pro. RevenueCat confirms the purchase, so Pro unlocks.
• No ads. No tracking. We never sell data.

1. Who we are

MosaicMe is made by Nil Basora, an independent developer in Spain (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. Write to us at [email protected].

This policy covers the MosaicMe app for iPhone and this website.

2. Your photos

Access

MosaicMe asks for access to your photo library through the iOS permission prompt. You can allow only the photos you select, or your whole library, and you can change your choice at any time in the iOS Settings app. The free features work with selected photos. The people and pets features of Pro need access to the whole library.

What happens to them

MosaicMe reads the photos you use on your iPhone, to build your mosaics and videos. For a mosaic made from photos you picked by hand, the app keeps smaller copies of those photos in its private storage on your iPhone, so you can edit the mosaic later. Deleting the mosaic deletes its copies.

We never upload your photos, thumbnails, or any information taken from them, to our servers or to anyone else. MosaicMe has no server that could receive them.

iCloud Photos

If your photos are stored in iCloud and you turn on Allow iCloud downloads, iOS downloads them from Apple to your iPhone so MosaicMe can use them. This transfer is between your iPhone and Apple, under Apple’s privacy policy. We receive nothing.

Saving and sharing

When you save or share a mosaic or a video, you choose where it goes: Photos, Files, Mail or another app. What happens next is governed by that app or service. Export files that MosaicMe keeps for a short time are deleted automatically after a day.

3. People and pets (Pro)

When you set up the smart library in Pro, MosaicMe looks through your photo library on your iPhone. It uses Apple’s Vision framework and a face recognition model that is built into the app. It finds faces and animals, rates how sharp and well lit each photo is, and computes a numeric description of each face. Those numbers let the app put photos of the same person in one group.

• The face descriptions, the groups, and any names you give to people or pets are stored only on your iPhone, in the app’s private storage. They are protected by iOS file encryption and are excluded from iCloud and device backups.
• They are never sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see them.
• They are used for one purpose: to make your mosaics. MosaicMe does not use them to find out who anyone is.
• You can delete them at any time in Settings › Privacy and data › Reset people and pet index. Deleting the app deletes them too.

4. Anonymous usage statistics

To learn which features people use and where the app fails, MosaicMe sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, an analytics service. Our PostHog project is hosted in the European Union.

What an event contains

• What happened, for example “a mosaic was made” or “an export finished”.
• Coarse details about it, for example the type of shape, the number of photos as a range such as “51–100”, the export format, or an error code.
• Whether Pro is unlocked, the app language, the app version, and a speed class of the device (low, mid or high).
• Information that PostHog’s software adds: the device model (for example “iPhone 16”), the iOS version, and the screen size.
• A random identifier that the app creates on your iPhone. It links the events of one installation. It is not connected to your name, your email, your Apple Account, an advertising identifier, or your purchase.

What an event never contains

Your photos or anything taken from them, file names, locations, faces, the names of people or pets, the text you type, or your email address. The app removes the time zone and the region of your device before it sends anything. PostHog discards the IP address of every event, and we do not add location information.

Your choice

Turn the statistics off at any time in Settings › Privacy and data › Share anonymous usage data. When it is off, the app sends nothing to PostHog.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep this data anonymous, and you can switch it off.

5. Purchases

MosaicMe Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment. We never see your payment details.

We use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States) to confirm purchases and to restore them. When you buy or restore Pro, RevenueCat receives a random identifier created by the app, the purchase details from Apple (product, date, price, currency and store country), and the technical data that every internet connection carries, such as the IP address. RevenueCat uses this data to tell the app that Pro is unlocked. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.

Legal basis: the performance of the purchase you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

6. Emails to us

If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message, including anything you choose to attach. When you use Settings › Contact us, the app fills in the app version, the iOS version and the app language; you can delete them before you send. We use your email only to answer you. We delete support emails when they are no longer needed, and after two years at the latest.

7. Apple

Apple provides the App Store, the payment for Pro, and the photo permission. If you allow “Share with App Developers” in the iOS Settings app, Apple sends us crash reports without your name. Apple’s privacy policy applies to these services.

8. What we never do

• We do not ask you to create an account.
• We do not show ads.
• We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we do not use the advertising identifier.
• We do not sell or share personal data, and we do not build profiles of you.

9. How long data is kept

• On your iPhone: until you delete it in the app, or delete the app.
• Usage statistics: for the retention period of our PostHog plan, currently one year.
• Purchase records: RevenueCat keeps them while they are needed to restore Pro and to meet legal accounting duties.
• Emails to us: until the conversation is over, and two years at the latest.

10. Where data is processed

PostHog stores our usage statistics in the European Union. RevenueCat is in the United States. When personal data leaves the European Economic Area, we rely on the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Your rights

You can ask us for access to your personal data, and for its correction, deletion or transfer. You can also object to our use of it or ask us to limit it. Write to [email protected].

The usage statistics are anonymous and are not linked to you, so we usually cannot find the events of one person. To stop them, turn off Share anonymous usage data in the app.

You can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es) or to the data protection authority where you live.

Residents of California and other US states: we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

12. Security

Data that MosaicMe keeps on your iPhone is protected by iOS file encryption, and the database of your mosaics is encrypted as well. The usage statistics and the purchase checks travel over encrypted connections (HTTPS).

13. Children

MosaicMe is suitable for all ages, but it is not made for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

14. This website

trymosaicme.com has no cookies, no analytics and no ads. The fonts are served from this site. GitHub hosts the site and Cloudflare delivers it; like every web host, they process the IP address of each visit to deliver the page and to protect the site.

15. Changes

If this policy changes, we publish the new version here with a new effective date. If a change affects how your data is used, we also tell you in the app.
